Well, since I live in Texas! I'd say if you want fast food, best burger in texas is from Whataburger!! Order a double meat w/cheese!
If you want a nice restaraunt... I would say any steak house, you might be lucky to find a bad one! Most of the say "steak house" or "road house"
If you like bbq and are in the mood for texas bbq! Whooo! You're in luck! Since I'm from texas, I think texas bbq is the best!! Some people say Bill Millers is the best, but i say it's ok, but don't think ou can go wrong with that!! Sauces are seprate!
THEN.... there's mexican food! This is more rare to find a good one! If you're not mexican, like me, you can't tell th difference! If you're in San Anotnio go to "Mi Tierra"! It's in the heart of el mercado!
Overalls: If you're in Austin or Houston (and i think they have some in Dallas) look for the Speggetti House!
I can go on and on!!!! Really email me vetsmom_rgv@yahoo to let me know where exactly you are so i can tell you where to go eat!!!!

Almost all big cities - Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, Austin, San Antonio have a wide selection. If you want Texas specialties try barbeque (brisket, baby back ribs, sausage), tex-mex (most local places are good (not chains, although Taco Cabana is pretty good)), Southern cooking (chicken fried steak, mashed potatos, green beans, etc.)
In Austin:
Barbeque - County Line, Salt Lick
Tex Mex - El Ranco, Chuez
Southern - Shady Grove.
Dallas / Fort Worth:
Tex Mex - Joe T's
Barbeque - Rail Head
San Antonio:
Tex Mex - Any where!
Ask the locals, they know the good places, or pick up a newspaper and go to the entertainment / life style / food section.

Texas Roadhouse (not really in Dallas but north of Dallas in McKinney) and Cheddars. Both are really good and not expensive.
