For me, it forever changed the way I felt about love and it forever changed the way I thought about myself (and yes, I know there are a few of you who actually have parents that are still together).

Well, my situation is different than most. I was in my teens when my parents split. They were married for 23 years before they got divorced, although they had been unhappy for probably the last ten. Anyways, yeah it definitely changed the way I see love, marriage and commitment in general. It's sad because marriage should be seen as permanent and yet, it's hard for me to wrap my mind around that now. In fact, I'm amazed when I meet people whose parents are still together.

Yes it changes life forever but you need to see that it may have been for the better. My parents divorced when I was just about 5. I didn't understand at first but as I have grown up I know that if they had stayed together just for me it may have ruine their relationship forever. They are still friends and I'm glad. You should always be happy with yourself. The divorce shouldn't change that.

Well my parents got divorced when i was 4 and it hasn't affected me at all. The problems I had in my marriage, have nothing to do with my parents separation.

No matter what my parents told me that it wasn't anything I had done, when I heard he was leaving to move in with another woman and her children, I felt,
overwhelmingly, that if I had been prettier, he would have stayed with our family. I also felt so frightened at night because he wasn't there to protect us any more. It's odd but even with counselling as a child, I never revealed these feelings deep inside me.
