I do not know how to get the old base off other than unscrew the whole thing from the seat, it is not the same size base that screws into the seat so would have to make new holes. I was told you can use just the pedistal. There is a strange slip type attachement and was wondering if that had to be removed to get it off? can anyone please help me with this. I need all the help I can, I am just a mere female..:-)

If you have a gas adjust chair, the seat top and mechanism that is screwed to it are not attached to the base. In most cases, the gas cylinder fits into the base and the is held there by friction and gravity. Have someone hold the chair up and tap the base (part that the wheels are attached to) with a hammer. It should drop off and hopefully the center hole is the same size as your new base.
