Physicals are very important preventative measures. When I get a physical, I bring up any and every question or concern I have, and I ask the doctor to run any and every test he feels is not overkill. I always have them do a full bloodwork panel (pretty standard). If you are sexually active, a physical is a perfect time to have them run a full STD panel also (HIV, etc). Be sure to mention anything that has been bothering or concerning you. Ask your doctor if there is anything you should start paying more attention to, and what he recommends. Good luck!

What will be checked:
1. Nurse: blood pressure so that you don't have high blood pressure, which can cause stroke (blod clot moving to brain).
2. Lab: blood--a. cholesterol levels, to see that you are eating a good diet and not building up plaque in your arteries that can lead to heart probs. b. blood--white blood cell, red blood cell and platelet count so they know you are healthy and don't have anemia or an autoimmune disorder; sugar levels so that they know you're not diabetic.
3. Lab: urine--again , to find out that your not diabetic, mostly.
4. Lungs and heart--doc will listen to both to make sure that there's not any lung congestion/pneumonia/blockage, and for any heart defects.
5. Doc will check lymph nodes (throat, inside and out, back of neck, under armpits)
6. Eyes, ears--doc checks for eye diseases (health of eye with the light) and ear health (with the light).
7. Male genitals--doc will quickly check for STD/fluids coming from penis; he'll hold your testicles, ask you to turn your head and cough to check for any hernia (intestine dropping into scrotum, shouldn't be happening); do a check on the prostate (yeah, the bend-over glove thing, that's the only way he can check it out!); and he may check over the testicles quickly for any unusual lumps which would indicate tumor. If you start to get erect, no problem, doc's have seen it all.
8. Doc "may" check the skin for moles/skin cancer. If he doesn't and you are CONCERNED about this (especially if you are exposed to the sun alot in the summer, or have been in your teens and 20's or have fair skin) BE SURE TO ASK HIM TO CHECK YOU OVER. With a diminishing ozone layer in the atmosphere, people are getting skin cancer often. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND A CHECK as I have had one suspicious mole removed, and I was in my 30's at the time.
That's it. The blood pressure and lab stuff takes the longest to do, really, the doc exam, about a couple of minutes, tops. Ask if you have concerns. They will call you at home if the lab stuff turns out abnormal.
Also, doctors usually don't ask about your emotional/mental state. If you are depressed or anxious, tell him, ask him to talk to you about it a little. He may refer you to a counselor, which I would recommend first before any meds.

You most likely have a chest x-ray and blood tests. Ask your doctor to review the results with you. Also, ask any and all questions you have about things that may be bothering you or about things that make you curious. There really is no set list of questions. They will vary from one person to the next. Good luck.

Easy answer - when you get into the examination room take off everything and when the doctor comes in tell him/her that you want absolutely everything checked out. Yes they always seme to want to get you to wear one of those silly shirts or gowns that leave your butt in the breeze but why bother with it. To get a thorough checkup, the doctor is gonna look you over from top to bottom anyway so why play games.
And if the doctor seems uptight and doesn;t want to examine youa naked man then find another doctor who will. And if the doctor skips a part or two, remind them you want it all checked out - including hernia, prostate, foreskin, lymph nodes, testicles, etc. - the whole works. And make sur ehtey talk to you and explaion what they are checking for and what they find. doctors like to keep things all secret but it is your body and they will tell you their findings if you insist.
