"In the vauted works of art, the master stroke is Nature's part. Nature paints the best part of the picture, carves the best part of the statue, builds the best part of the house, and speaks the best part of the nation."

To me, it means all we can do is recreate what we see (what nature has already created). For instance, we can paint a picture of a tree, but nature already made the real thing, and even the best painting can never capture the total beauty of the real thing. The same is true for any type of art involving natural things (sculpture, drawings, etc.).

As for a life's lesson, I guess it is that as hard as we try, we will never reach perfection. We can never achieve as much as nature has. We can, however, try the best we can and be the best we can, knowing that we'll always fall at least a little short of nature's accomplishments. If we're going to paint a picture of a tree, paint it the best we can, and know that even though it's not perfection, there's still beauty in it.

I think it means that without nature you wouldn't have a master stroke, that nature's colors are almost too perfect to capture and she has already supplied your palette. Nature has provided the the rock or wood that helps an artist to envision transcendent beauty with the first strike.
The best part of a nation? "Oh beautiful for spacious skies for amber waves of grain and purple mountains majesty abouve the fruited plain."

Since Nature is capatilized, I take it as a metaphor for God. He gifts us with our talents and all our best comes from Him. And, when a nation is governed by His laws, he blesses that nation with prosperity.
