simplify the following fraction

a^2 - 2ab + b^2 = (a - b) ^2

then...

(a - b)^2 / (a + b) = (a -b) (a - b) / (a + b)

(a^2 - 2ab + b^2)/ (a + b)
factor the numerator
(a-b)(a+b)/(a+b)
the (a+b) in the numerator and the denominator cancel eachother out thus you are left with
a-b

I believe that it is simplified since the numerator is a perfect square: (a-b)^2

Firstly, a² - 2ab + b² = (a - b)(a - b) = (a - b)²

Simplified as far as it will go:
(a - b)² / (a + b)
