I recently moved into a house and have 2 dogs. The neighborhood is FULL of cats. Anyways, I have a large backyard with high fences and my dogs are outdoor dogs, and they just happen to HATE cats. They love people and other dogs but just despise cats and almost stalk them in my back yard. They have killed 5 and I see more out there. My neigbors are getting angry and saying my dogs are dangerous. What should i do?

If the cats are killed in your backyard then i do not think so i am not sure. But i do not understand why cats would go in a fenced in yard with dogs that seems strange. if the cats are killed outside your fence you and your dogs are in some trouble. Normally cats will not go near dogs.

This is a difficult problem, because if the cats get into your yard, the dogs are going to attack them no matter what, evidently. On the other hand I don't think you can allow your dogs to kill other animals, unless you are a hunter or something, and it's not likely you are planning to eat your neighbors' cats. If you want to be a responsible neighbor you might need to pen the dogs at night, at least.

So long as your dogs are staying in their fence and on your property, it's not your fault. You can't help it if cats get into your fence. Seriously, your neighborhood has some dumb cats if they keep coming into your yard with 2 aggressive dogs. If your neighbors are worried about their cats, they should keep them indoors or fenced in somehow.

It's a dog's predatory nature to hunt and kill things, you can't get rid of that. Some dogs will never like cats no matter socialized they are. I've been fortunate that all of my dogs have loved cats, even without socialization to them. We used to think one of our dogs hated them because he'd always chase them. We didn't realize that once he'd catch them, he'd groom them! This doesn't matter to you though, because obviously your dogs aren't chasing them down to lick them.

Just keep your dogs in your fence and you should be fine. Although you might want to look into some ways of keeping the cats out of your yard (like patching little holes or putting up things that rattle if they try to jump over the fence?).

Okay, and I don't want anyone getting on my case for calling the cats in your neighborhood dumb. I love cats and have 2 myself. I'm just calling it like I see it. Only less intelligent creatures would wander into a yard with 2 snarling predators.

If your dogs stay in the fenced area let your neighbors know that your dogs STAY on YOUR property, not theirs. You do your job by keeping your dogs home, so they should do their job and keep their cats home. Its THEIR cats that are tresspassing.

Now, if your dogs run freely all over the neighborhood, THEN its your fault. Your neighbors actually have the right to ask for cash for all the pet damage. And trust me...cats can get expensive. A local pet store in my area sells MIXED cats for 400 dollars.

Watch them when they are outside. Stay out with them and leave them inside when they are not home. My dogs have done the same thing, but with my own pet cats. Since I don't believe in getting rid of animals, I have to keep my dogs and cats in seperate rooms. When the cats come out to play and visit, the dogs get locked up and visa versa. They have not hurt a cat in over 7 years now, so I guess it works. We also stay outside with them like I told you to.

if the cats are hoping into your yard i dont see how you can be at fault. as long as your dogs are in a fenced yard. Also talk with your neighbor and ask them for some suggestions. Good Luck!

Nothing to do with your dogs- If they can't keep their cats somewhere where they won't be mauled, or can't kill the native wildlife then seriously----they should be reported; cats are the highest statistical cause for the plummeting small native populations. They stalk and kill millions of birdlife and ground dwellers each year. They breed and become feral and roam up to 11 kilometres a night!! Good on you for having a decent yard for your dogs----those cats are giving them some excitement!!

If it is happening in your yard, then just tell the cat owners that if they want fluffy to live, then keep her out of your yard. You have dogs, they know that. If they don't see your point, then they have their heads up you know where. They need to keep their cats restrained the same way as your dogs. Shame on them if they think it's your fault!

Not much you can do. If the cats are coming onto your property. Now if the dogs are running wild in the hood killing cats then you have a problem. tell them to keep their cats out of your backyard.

Honestly it does seems as if your dogs have a problem, maybe you can take them to be properly trained or doggie day camp (petsmart offers both for relatively cheap). If that doesnt help you may consider moving, your neighbors are only going to become more angry (rightfully so, they love their pets too) and ask you to get rid of your dogs.

Good luck to you
