Defintately not a jet engine - but quite possibly a fire.

In actual fact because the stochiometric values of petrol, it is actually quite possible if you have "dunked the pipe" into a container of petrol you will not actually get ignition from the brushes - as the mixture is unlikely to be right - it would however be a mind-numingly silly chance to take.

As the fuel ran out however, there WOULD be a point where the petrol/air mixture was correct - (the cleaner would have acted a little like a carb) and then you could have ignition. This in turn would then ignore all the remaining fuel - and much hotness would duly ensue.

It perhaps would not be a great plan.

You *CAN* make a jet engine at home by using an olt turbo charger.

You use the fresh-air inlet as the intake port, the fresh air out then goes into a "flame tube" - a perforated metal drum inside a metal pip - to this is added either hot (vapourising) diesel OR (less efficent but esier) propane. You then need a spark plug with a high rep-rate spark (can be fiddly things to keep the flame from being blown out.

The flame tube is then copnnected to the inlet side of the exhaust side of the turbo - and the exhaust out becomes the thrust port.

As much as 100 LBs of thrust (enough for go-carts etc) can be obtained and supersonic shock waves seen in the exhaust flame cone.

A bitof topic now, but I thought it would be more interesting that jst saying "no" to the original question.

No not a jet engine. More likely you will get a bomb. With you as the victim of the ensuing explosion.

Mixing a highly volatile accellerent like gasoline with air flow and electric motors that spark is incredibly stupid. Then again we do need to get rid of the shallow end of the gene pool.

Only your friends and loved ones - and the fire department, and the insurance company, and the person who gets hired to make stickers for all future wet vacs saying "this company not liable if you are illogical enough to try to vacum up gasoline with an electric appliance" - will know... and they'll discuss it tearfully at your funeral.

Shop vacs aren't explosion-proof, meaning vaporizing the gasoline by vacuuming it up will expose the explosive vapors to the armature of the motor, and will likely cause a fire.

DON'T DO IT!!!!!!
