1. Bruce Springsteen - Nebraska.
Say what you want, but this is the way music should be. His voice shines, his lyrics are brilliant as ever and the sound is incredible. And he recorded it on basic equipment in his own kitchen.
2. Bob Dylan - Highway 61 Revisited or Blonde On Blonde.
I personally prefer Blonde on Blonde, but most people who know their music would put the Highway 61 Revisited. Any Dylan album would surpass, as they all showcase his remarkable songwriting skills.
3. Fleetwood Mac - Rumours.
Probably one of the greatest pop album of all time, but still retaining a hint of rock. Brilliant songwriting all round with Stevie Nicks' Dreams a standout alongside others such as go your own way and don't stop. I preferred the Mac as a blues band but this deserves the credit.
4. The Beatles - Abbey Road.
I felt obliged to include a Beatles album, and this is probably my favourite. However Revolver, Sgt Peppers, and The Beatles would all suit. Paved the way for pop music and along the way through out a number of absolute gems. Abbey Road being the last album the Beatles recorded showcases George, Paul and John as mature songwriters.
5. The Allman Brothers - At Fillmore East
Well, i wanted to put another rock album in, and as far as live albums go, this is probably the best. Showcases the guitar talents of Allman and Betts and incorporates the blues and a bit of country into some great rock tracks.

Other albums that came close are:
Neil Young - Harvest
Simon and Garfunkel - Bridge Over Troubled Water
Nirvana - Nevermind
Tom Petty - Full Moon Fever
Elton John - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road
The Traveling Wilburys - The Traveling Wilburys Vol. 1
The Band - Music From Big Pink
The Eagles - Hotel California
The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds
U2 - The Joshua Tree
