DW Griffith's the big movie pioneer. Proved movies didn't just have to be 5 minutes long.

What kind of music? Lots of pioneers in all genres.

I would say a big movie pioneer was the creator of the Keystone Kops, Mack Sennett. He put a craziness and fast pace to comedy that is still of vital importance today!
