For every woman the time of ovulation can be different. Most women ovulate somewhere between day 14 of your cycle and day 21 (remembering that day 1 is the first day of your period). Your best chance for pregnancy is most likely somewhere in the middle of that. However, sperm can live for up to 5 days inside the woman's body so if you ovulate within 5 days of having unprotected sex, you could get pregnant. Ovulation is the process in which the egg travels along the fallopian tube; this process takes about 48 hours and this is the time during which the egg can be fertilized. If it is not fertilized during this time, then it will be released during the next period.
If you are trying to get pregnant, tell your husband to hold off until day 14 of your cycle. The more he ejaculates, the smaller the concentration of sperm. If you wait until day 14, and then have sex every couple of days, chances are you will get pregnant. If you are not trying to get pregnant, then use protection! The "calendar" method (avoiding sex during the expected time of ovulation) is not reliable for all the reasons I mentioned previously. Good luck!
