There are things that might help but its pretty much up to your body to get things started without medical intervention. Walking alot and massaging and stimulating the breast seem to work the best.

I had a similar problem only I didn't even go into labor. They were going to induce me...here's what I did:

Primrose oil - gel caps the highest strength you can get and use them like a supasatory

WALK WALK WALK, I paced around our staircase for 4 straight hours and went on a walk around the neighborhood.

Excersize ball - rock back and forth; or if you don't have one do pelvic rocks - will also move the baby down for less pushing!

Keep yourself busy - tidy the nursery, look at all the baby things, tear everything out of the doors and put them back in (gets your mind off labor not progressing)

Good Luck!

I actually read a report (i can't remember where, a parenting magazing maybe?) that said couples who have sex up until delivery deliver (on average) at about 39.5 wks. Conversely, those who stopped having sex earlier delivered at about 39 weeks. And I always thought having sex helped! But I don't really think there's much that can help you dilate really. I was due March 12, had a doctor appt. March 7, was 1cm dilated, 80% effaced, the doctor told me we wouldn't be seeing my daughter for a while...I started having cramps that afternoon (like an hour after my appointment) and hard labor started at about 12:30 am of the 8th. I was one of the lucky ones that didn't have a long labor though...She was born 6:44 am...and only two of those hours was spent in the hospital because I, being the genius that I am, didn't even realize I was in labor until my water broke. Course, she was my first and I had never even heard of back labor...

Anyway, the point of my long and overdrawn reply here is that there is no tried and true method to get you to dilate. I suppose walking once to actually start labor would help...it just makes sense, but before that...I think you just have to wait for your baby to decide to make an appearance.

You will dialate when the time is right. There's nothing you can do but to wait.

you can't make yourself dilate, but it can help to speed it up if you walk, when I was in labor, I walked for three hours, in a hospital gown, by the time I got back, I was fully dilated and ready to pop. Walking helps for gravity to take charge I guess.

Walking and intercourse are the most effective ways. But the baby will come when it is ready don't force it. Good luck.
