If u have a sound system and just want to lower the level slightly. The smallest level decrease that most people can hear is 3 dB. Db is a logarithmic level change. If u can preciously measure the power in the level and u drop it by 3dB u have decreaseed the actual power by 1/2. To decreas it by 10 it is down 10dB. 20 dB is down 100. 30 dB is down 1000.
