I remember my grandmother telling me that thunder and lightening were the result of angels bowling. Thunder was the sound of the ball rolling, and the lightening were the pins falling.

Well, here are a few of mine. If it rained and thundered while the sun was shining then the devil was beating his wife and you could put a glass to a tree and hear him.
If it rained during a burial, then it was a sign the angels were crying and would bring them to heaven.
If I swallowed bubble gum, then it would stick to my stomach.
If I ate the candy called "pop rocks" then took a swallow of coke or Pepsi-then my stomach would blow up.
Or if made fun of anyone then my mom said my babies would be the same way as the person I was making fun at.
And one of my favorites that came from my 4 yr old son:
One evening I was cooking Rice a Roni (you know the commercial-It's the San Fran Sisco Treat-)well, he came in when I was cooking it and he believed it was only for those people living there. He said "Mom, that's the San Fran Sisco Treat, but don't worry, I won't tell them you are cooking it in NC!" I laughed so hard. He honestly thought only they could have it!!
Another one from him, if he had a small scratch or cut, and he saw blood, he thought he was dying. He would scream "I'm gonna die, I'm bleeding, I'm gonna die!!!" I always had to cover it up really quickly. Then he would be okay and he didn't think he would die anymore.

I think my major misconception was that there were very small little men living inside the traffic lights. They sat at little desks with surveillance televisions watching the traffic, and flipped switches to change the light color.
Lord only knows where I came up with that. LoL
I think we all believed in the tooth-fairy....and that certainly wasn't true! I was suckered into the whole watermelon seed thing, too!
I believed that the shadows on the wall at night, from light through the window, could turn into a monster and jump off the wall to grab me!

The one I remember best is that I thought there were 30 letters in the alphabet. Maybe it was because of a Dr. Seuss book about other letters...
I also though there were goblins (like the ones in Labrynth) who would live in the parts of your house that no one was in. When someone came back to those parts of the house, the goblins would run away. I don't know how I thought of that one.

First, I would like to say. Your first story is not only true for children but adults too. I was never told that story that I could remember , but as an adult the story had come to me as being true, so I will hold on to that one. In my childhood, I was to be seen but not heard. liston but don't ask questions. needless to say this stumped my growth and caused a few outbursts, now I speak as often as possible and think more freely. Thank You for the Q.
