I am looking for ideas for toys or obstacles for my 2 rats to play with. They have a lrge cage and right now I have a hammock and a branch that they crawl on. Any other ideas? They are adults but still love to play.

if its a wire cage bird toys are great and they will also love to climb so if its a wire cage you can get toys that they have to climb up to play with and it will give them a form of excersize
a wheel is great too

Rats love to run, find a large, solid plastic wheal. (be sure it is solid or their tails could get caught while they are running)
Also try shelves, ramps, and any kind of latter they can climb vertically.
I also tie old rags together and hang them from the top of the cage to make rope ladders.
Be sure to keep wood chew blocks for your rats to chow down on as well.
Use your imagination and find a creative way to arrange everything so it is like an obstacle course with lots of different ways to get around. Rats are smart and like challenges.

I have small Coffee cans for their Homes. I made a cage out of 2 water heater pans, and used wire for a cage. So it is 4 foot tall with 3 levels. I use non dusty cat Litter to asorb urine and use dry shavings over them. The Big cage has 12 males.

My rats really like the big tunnels (actually made for ferrets) that link together. I bought them at PetSmart. Also, a wheel to run in. Exercise is good for rats. Just about any toy that a ferret can play in or on is good for rats.

A large running wheel is great; any cardboard boxes or empty paper towel rolls for chewing; wooden sticks/chew toys; bird ladders; hidey-houses.

i have had lots of rats and i found that the cheap and easy way to go is paper towel and toilet paper tubs are really fun for them. for nesting, i always gave mine an old sock. make sure they have something to grind their teeth down on too.
