I saw a woman use her food stamps voucher to buy shrimp, steak and frozen Maine lobster tails as I stood in line behind her exhausted after working my second job buying my family Tuna Helper. Screw her and her lazy offspring. The whole damn fam was fat as pigs and dirty. The borish son came running up with a video he wanted his mom to buy and she did. They also had a VCR and money to burn on movies. BURNS ME UP!!

If people choose to not work, then they've chosen to not eat. Why pay lazy people to be lazy? On the other side ot things, if people are so physically or mentally disabled that they CAN'T work, then let them be on welfare and try to help them feel ok about themselves by finding volunteer work or something that they can do.
And if the government got all the illegals off welfare there'd be a lot more money to go around. I knew of a family in Spokane, WA who were busted a couple of years ago for having a drug operation in their house. They were illegals for one thing, and for another, each adult (4 of them) was separately on welfare claiming an entire family! They were all living in the same house! Plus each adult had at least one job! Then there was the drug money.
I don't think most people on welfare should be on it. The government should protect society's vulnerable (ie: mentally and physically disabled), not sorry a-- lazy people who (just look at them sometime) get their welfare money and the first things they buy are cigarettes and booze and then they gamble. I know a pastor whose church gets constantly asked to "help" poor people but if they didn't buy the cigarettes, booze, lottery tickets and so on, they'd have enough money for groceries and rent. Through volunteer work in the past I've met some people who chain smoke through 1-2 packs a DAY, have at least 4 or 5 beers a DAY 'to unwind', go to bingo every DAY, buy lotto tickets every week. And on the taxpayers' dime!
If they can make it to the store to buy the crap and make it to bingo every day or two and spend THE DAY there then they can work. They give anyone else on welfare a bad name. Not everyone is a leech.

Oh God, there are TONS of people who choose not to work and they do collect a lot of money. It takes away from those who truly need it like the elders, and disabled. I did read the first stupid comment about illegals, who are actually the only people who seem to work and work the hardest! They do all the crappy jobs that idiots like Kathleen don't want to do! But to answer your question, no I don't think people should be rewarded for not working and no, I don't think most of the people on welfare really need it. The government does not really support these poeople, it is the taxpayers that do.

I'm so sick of these people who live off of taxes taken away from my paycheck! I fully support the idea of government disability benefits going to people with disabilities, or assistance to people who are trying really hard but can't make ends meet, but I do not condone rewarding laziness. Also, it's a fact of life that some people will be able to afford WANTS that you can't afford.... I wish I could afford a Lexus, but I can't, oh well, I make due driving an Oldsmobile.

I think welfare should only help people support their needs, not their wants, and I have seen too many people who are getting their wants supported as much as their needs. I'm not saying everyone, but a lot of people on these programs just plain don't want to work, and I know that for a fact because some of them are related to people I know or I know them. I hate my job... work sucks, but that's life, so i go anyway to support myself. Oh well, I have a great life outside of my crappy job!

Vote Republican.

There should be precisely zero people on welfare. It is not the government's purpose to provide for those who cannot or choose not to provide for themselves. Further, of all the organizations who *could* handle this sort of thing, the federal government is the absolute worst choice possible.

NO I FEEL THAT WELFARE SHOULD BE FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE WORKED AND FALL ON HARD TIMES OR FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE UNEMPLOYED, OR PEOPLE WHO GO TO SCHOOL TRYING TO GET A JOB OR CAREER ANYBODY ELSE THEY SHOULD BE WORKING OR TRYING TO DO SOMETHING . NOT KEEP HAVING BABIES FOR THE SAKE OF A BIGGER CHECK AND FOOD STAMPS . I PAY TAX AND HAVE BEEN WORKING FOR ALMOST 29 YRS AND I CAN'T GET FOOD STAMPS OR MEDICAID AND I PAY TAXES SO I THINK THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD NOT TAKE CARE OF PEOPLE WHO DON'T WORK AND DON'T USE THE KIDS AS AN EXCUSE. IF YOU CAN'T TAKE CARE OF THEM THEN YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE THEM . THAT'S WHY IT IS IMPORTANT FOR STAY AT HOME MOMS TO WORK SO WHEN YOUR MAN LEAVES YOU CAN GET UP AND GET A JOB AND NOT GO STRAIGHT TO WELFARE . WELFARE SHOULD BE A TEMPORARY THING NOT A CAREER.

People who are able and do not work should receive nothing. It is time to do some purging.

Illegals should receive nothing and be forced to buy a ticket home or face the death penalty.

"And, yes, the government does have a duty to support those who cannot support themselves."

Those who can't? Sure.

Those who won't? No.

If you're able bodied, and you're sound of mind, you can find a job. It may not be a great job, but it's a job.

If you are able to work you should not receive welfare. We should not reward laziness and indifference.
