or complicated? In my state, for example, you have to pay $1200 up front just to apply. I am jobless, why would I want to do that? I looked in another state, and it is just complicated. I don't want to shell out a bunch of money for a "maybe" job. It would be easier to just go back to school and get a second degree in teaching. (I already have a B.S. degree, btw).

With a BA degree there are many places that will allow you to work in the schools while you are earning your Masters in teaching. This is especially applicable in schools and districts where there is a teacher shortage.

The following is a link to a document regarding having Stafford loans forgiven, but it might give you some ideas about where you could look for districts that offer non-traditional paths towards licensing.

The state of Florida has a great "transition to teaching" program. I'm only familiar with one in Palm Beach County. Basically you sign a three year contract and have that amount of time to take specific education courses while you are already teaching. You don't have much choice as far as where you teach those first three years because they place you where you are most needed in the county. They help you every step of the way to getting your certificate. As far as I understood, you don't pay any fees..but you start getting paid right away.
