i don't know anything about poker and i want to host one for my friend. it's not going to be a tournament style one, nothing fancy. what are the essentials that i need to prepare ahead of time?

A chip set....most chip sets come w/ all the chips you'll need, including the dealer buttons, and normally 2 decks of cards.

A table or 2 depending on how many people you're going to have playing.

That pretty much covers it...unless you want a designated dealer. then you're gonna need to find someone that is willing to not play and just deal

you can buy sets now with a mat which has outlines on for cards. you get 2 decks loads of chips and an instruction manuel
