Absolutely No! contest AVG Free version 7.5, its completely free for personal use and is way better than Norton or McAfree. I've used many of the paid AV programs and AVG gets 10 out of 10 in my opinion.

**In fact Norton was so aweful I had to download a special tool to remove the package because it wouldnt uninstall.

**AVG updates are almost daily and again are free, in contrast to Norton who charge you an arm & leg for anything, i.e. subscription service for updates only payable via credit card?

neither, these software manufacturers produce virus software that will drain your computers memory, and their not much good anyway
for a good anti-virus for a home system use avast or a.v.g anti-virus
these have been tried and tested and have a detection rate second to none, avast is used by milllions of windows xp users worldwide,as its one of the only free anti-virus programs that is highly recommended by microsoft and all leading software companys
a.v.g is a popular anti-virus as its a easy program to use and has a really basic interface offering timely updates and excellent detection
like i said before the problem with norton is the sheer power it uses on your p.c,it drains the ram and does the same job as the free software, and mcafee is the same although the mcafee firewall is very good and norton go-back is second to none as a recovery program
if you wish to pay for anti-virus protection i can highly recommend f-secure anti-virus,i used it a few years ago and found it very good,i liked the way it scans viruses, spyware and rootkits, and the i.e sheild icon in internet explore is a nice touch that makes you feel safe on-line(you can also disable the i.e sheild while still in internet explorer)
personally i would go for either avast4.7 or f-secure
good luck

McAfee! I am a reseller of these products and they are by far the best. The products check for critical updates every 15 mins. They also take up only 3-4 MB RAM, compared to Nortons 30-60. It also doesnt give you those anoying pop-up to let you know "hey, you turned on the computer" and then "you installed a program, please tell me what it is" every 5 seconds. McAfee just knows what to do, and how to do it!

Norton and McAfee slow your pc down because they sit there running all the time waiting for you to log on to the internet and catch a virus.

Try AVG (http://www.grisoft.com) - it doesn't sit there taking up CPU time, and it's FREE!

AVG is JUNK. I recommend active virus shield. It is the best and it is free.
