1. Check the instruction manual. It might help.
2. Look for a button that says DVD operation or something like that.
3. If these don't work, try contacting the manufacturer concerning the problem.

Very few DVD/VCR players can be programmed into universal remotes for whatever reason. If you have another button (like and aux) you can program the DVD into that one and the VCR into the VCR button. It might be because the remote can't be programmed to switch from the DVD to the VCR and vice versa.
Sorry, I don't know the technacalities. Double check your manuel and see if it has a programming code for it. Mine doesn't so I just programmed the DVD since I watch that more.
