There is no reason for the world. It just is.

People, however, being intelligent and creative, can create their own meaning and purpose.

IMHO

why do you think there needs to be a reason?
Even if god and heaven exist if you can comprehend all the people that have ever lived before and all the ones that will be here after you, you are but a spec of sand.
Also almost every generation thinks theirs is close to the last, but there’s still a lot to go. They also tend to think they are the most advanced but only by standing on the shoulders of the ones before, in terms of leaps and bounds the generation that saw us go from horse drawn carriages to airplanes beats us so far.

The world is here to be destroyed.

The (good) people are here to sit back in ignorance, fear and intolerance and meekly watch as the (bad) people destroy the world in their futile attempts for absolute power and domination.

Eventually, the good people will finally decide that enough is enough and will unite to expel the bad people as outcasts and will never again allow such creatures to exist among us.

Fiction?? Take a look around at what's going on now and think again.

I don't believe that there is a reason for our existence.

Did you ever see the 80's movie "Clash of the Titans". In that movie that have a scene with the Gods walking around a table moving chess pieces. At one point, on God picked up one of the chess pieces and crushed it in his hand. At the same time, a person here on earth died.

(Maybe we are just tools of a war between higher states of consciousnesses)
