well you pretty much screwed yourself, some teachers may not be so nice as to give a make up exam. If you intent on cheating but then backed out, then thats not really anyones fault but yours. The teacher doesn't know if you actually cheated or not and looked at your hand.
Take this situation for example. An old man chats with someone online that he thinks is a 14 year old and asks to meet when its a police officer pretending to be 14. While he's about to meet the person he decides its wrong and turns around. He is caught by the police. he tells police he thought about it but then decided not to go ahead in meeting that person. Do you really think the police will believe him?

You had intended to cheat or you wouldnt have written the information on your hand. Cheating , whether you write it on your hand or use some other means such as cell phones is caused by fear, laziness, or general disrespect for the teacher, the class and other students. You were looking for an unfair advantage. If you could prove you didnt use the information on your hand you might stand a chance but if that information was on the test, you are out of luck. Next time get tutoring before the test so you are not afraid, budget your time so you study legitimately, and remember it is an insult to cheat.

Go to the teacher's office and talk to him. Tell him that you would like an opportunity to prove that you know the material and ask for a make up exam to prove it and/or ask for a project or something.

^_^ If you're in college or university, there is no toleration for this. But in lower educational level, it is cheat because there is no reason for writing "something" in your hand but you may be tolerated if try to convince your teacher. Be honest and promise that it'll never happen again.

Your intention to cheat is just as bad as actually cheating.
Besides, do you really think that anyone believes that you didn't cheat?
