She's only four days old, so I know she's going to take a while to get used to a routine. But how long does it take? I'm exhausted.

I know you are exhausted, but listen, your baby has got to learn the difference between day and night. This is what I did first I put my daughter on a feeding schedule. My daughter was breastfeed so every 2-3 hours she would get fed and at night every 3-4 and if I was lucky 5. By creating a schedule you can manipulate their naptimes, they are usually not gonna wake up unless they are hungry or wet at this age and you should change baby before putting her down for a nap, so you don't have to disturb her for a while. Also when you give evening feedings, start turning the lights down, to let the baby know hey it's sleepy time, limit interaction to settle the baby down. during late night feeding and changes, don't turn on any lights, don't even talk, any stimulation will arouse the baby to become fully awake. I did this and my baby slept like a baby. Good Luck and Congrats on your new little one!

It takes a few months to get a good sleep routine down. You also need to sleep. The best advise I can give is to sleep when your baby sleeps. Even if its just an hour. Your body (and mind) will thank you for it. If you are not nursing, have someone give you a break. Have your mate or friend care for your baby while you get a good nap. Hang in there! It gets better. My daughter is now 14 months old and she sleeps 10 - 11 hours at night.

Getting a sleep routine is hard with a new baby. She will figure it out soon. Some tips that worked for me were to keep the house well lit during the day and dark at night when you want her to sleep. The will help her know day and night. Baby's sleep when they are tired. Start sleeping when she is sleeping. It will help. And finally (if not breastfeeding) enjoy coffee!!!

Good luck!!

Good grief, what were you expecting? Did you think it was all a big joke, about new parents being exhausted? Feed your baby on a schedule; wake her up to eat on time during the day if you need to, even. Don't do that at night, though. She should give you 2 1/2 to 3 hours at a time at night very soon if you put her on a schedule and stick to it. Remember, it's YOU who have to stick to it, the baby wont' do it automatically. You have to train her.

Mine started sleeping in a 5 hour block at night around 10 weeks...you've got a while. Get some help so you won't feel like death in the daytime.

In six to eight weeks, she'll probably sleep at least four hours straight at night. She doesn't sleep because her tummy is so tiny. She needs to wake often to eat. Every new parent has been there. Just remember that this is just a temporary phase.

It wont take that long. Just try to keep her awake as much during the day as you can. That will help. Good luck and congrats on your little one!!!

It takes weeks or months. Have your husband take over daytime feedings when he is off from work like on weekends so you can catch-up. Fathers are parents too!

It takes months before she'll sleep all the way through the night. She'll sleep more and more each day if you just hang in there. Congrats on your new little girl :-)
