Why are the British so snooty?

I get sick of you damn limeys mocking us Americans for not understanding your crude humour.

I try and be helpfull and answer questions and all I get is rude e-mails telling me I'm a dumb yank ='(

I mean how am I meant to know what "You dont get many of them to a pound guv" means.

I'm incredibly surprised that, as an American (God bless you),you understand the term snooty. Most yanks have a stunted vocabulary at best, and their spelling, like yours is atrocious.

It may have escaped your notice, but America is hardly the most popular country at the moment, George W is up there with Saddam in the world's most unpopular leaders contest. A lot of British folk feel annoyed that we're being dragged into it by our weak leader. Our anger spilling out onto poor stupid people like you and George Bush.

So it all rather political if you understand, though, I doubt you do. In general it seems your countrymen have a weak grasp of the topic.

To keep it simple for you, we could be snooty, but we don't need to be, its SO obvious that we're simply better by far than dumb yanks like you.

No, we're not. And my humour isn't crude. I'd never suggest that all Americans were idiots - you can't categorise everyone by their nationality. There are snobs, idiots and morons all over the world, not just in the UK; I've seen plenty of American answers that display the same characteristics.

And I'm sorry if I sound pompous, but British idiots are particularly embarrassing to me because I worry that this kind of judgement would be made about the rest of us. I just hoped that people would have more sense than to stereotype and categorise in this way.

Sometimes our insistence on manners has been misunderstood as "snootiness." But perish the thought. We are quite fond of the quaint ways of the colonials and I have no idea why anyone one call such an obvious representative of the American intelligentsia as yourself a "dumb yank." Quite appalling indeed.

I won't burden you with a lengthy explanation of the "many per pound" phrase, as it does involve a general appreciation of currencies and measurements, but as, you would say, it doesn't amount to a hill of legumes. Ta ta!

i have two British females friends, i didnt think about it before, but they both seem rather headstrong gals. I actually had a convo with one of them about British guys, she said they are super conceited more than most men, thinkin they are all that an stuff. i also heard a statistic that showed England is the country were the most people describe themselves as "sexy" so i duno, i guess that means their is a lot of snooty English dudes, but try not to stereotype them all, im sure they are some really nice guys. (like that cute andrew guy from changing rooms ;D

oh, and for the humor, i dont find it that funny, but hey its another culture who am i to be hatin'

What she doesn't seem to understand is English in the UK is different from English in the U.S. The same differences can be seen between Spanish in Spain and Spanish in Mexico/Columbia/etc; Portuguese in Portugal and Portuguese in Brazil. Instead of spending one's time criticizing another country, why not do something more productive?
