I drove the car 6 hours prior to the mail box (0.4 mi) in the rain and parked the car with no problem. Later on round 8:30 pm I wanted to go to the store I put in the key, stuck in my Alpine radio and proceeded to put car in drive and the car went a little bit and cut off and I was stuck in the middle of the drive way. I tried to cut the car on again and at cranked up while in park and cut off again. Now I just wanted to get my car from sticking out the drive way. So I tried to get it in reverse by presing on the gas and the car shot in reverse fast and the car shut off. I don't know what is going on and my boyfriend don't either and he has his own BMW Shop but won't be able to look at it again no time soon I figure I'll ket my dad look at it so anything will help me.

*All lights turn on so it's not the battery
*Car startup while in park but shakes and cut off in 20 sec.
*Can't put car in drive, reverse etc or car cuts off.

this sounds like a fuel pump problem but don't forget to test or replace the pump relay a/r as this probabley has been overloaded by the slowly dying pump.

BMW ey! These cars are nutorious for this. They have a light behind the steering wheel. I looks like the light on the front the car "Kit from the TV show Night Rider" but the color will be orange. It is in the bottom center of the intrument cluster. (under the speedometer) the light consist of 5 little bars. They gradualy increase as you drive more and more. This monitors your oil usage and when the last light turns on the cars shuts down so you do not drive without an oil change. It is a safety feature that is a pain in the but. You can't just change the oil. A mechanic that know about BMWs can reset that sensor and I bet your car will start.

Good Luck!

Sounds like it's not getting fuel. If the tank is full, could be the fuel pump. If you aren't sure about the tank, add a gallon or so (the gauge could be the problem), or maybe try some dry-gas (in case there's water in the tank).

my guess is the fuel pump really,, car is running rough and once it reaches a minimum RPM the car shuts off, once it starts see if you can rev it up to 2000 RPM and hold it there, if you can it sounds like the Idle control valve is really gummed up,

Your BF isnt much of a BF if he isnt working on the car at night for you,
