Reading some of the answers, that sounds nice. It sounds similar to a Sausage Supper, it's battered and deep fried, but not in cornmeal.

A corn dog is simply a hot dog on a stick, coated with corn bread batter, and deep fried. Served with mustard it is a delicacy.

It's a breaded hot dog on a stick. I'm not sure why we call it a corn dog, but maybe the breading has corn meal in it. People like to dip it in mustard, but I think they're gross.

A corn dog is a hot dog-type sandwich coated in cornbread batter and deep fried in hot oil, although there are baked variations. Originally made without sticks, almost all corn dogs are now on sticks.
it's a staple at the State Fair of Texas.

I've never tried one. it's a hot dog coated in a corn meal dough and then deep fried.
by the way, what the heck is a steak and kidney pie? I mean, the name is obvious, but how does it taste? kidney was pretty gross the last time I tried it.
