At work that's what they do call me & it's meant as a compliment. I stick with it until I get the job done & therefore I get some really tough assignments. Those don't go to the poodle, or the terrier, they go to the pitbull.
However, I don't know how I'd feel if someone in my private life called me that. I guess it would depend on the circumstances.

my mom used to call me that. i used to think because I was strong and protective.
i have two pitbulls now. they are so lazy. so i'd be pissed if she called me a pitbull now.
