My 36 daughter has lived in NYC a little over 10 years. She adores the city & of course I've visited her several times. When I've been there, for the most part - people are people; that is, there are some very, very nice New Yorkers and some you'd like to push in front of a train - but isn't that true almost everywhere. I grew up in a town of about 5000 in Kansas, but have lived near Cleveland Ohio since I was 18. I love it here and I'm just far enough away to miss the aggravations of 'the city'. We're ALL okay wherever we are! Just people trying to get along!

we are very direct and we don't have phony smiles on our faces. Other Americans have a problem with that. I went to North Carolina with three other New Yorkers, and people were very nice to us, smiling and so on. Then they would ask where we were from and when we said New York, the smile dropped off their faces immediately and they became cold as ice. I would rather be an honest impolite New Yorker than a phony like that anytime.

I think NYC is nice, very busy place but there are some nice people there. Anywhere you go in the US there is bound to be some nice people and some not so nice people. It doesn't matter what state you are in. But been there a very very long time ago and plan on visiting next year.

I've never been there but when I think of NY: these random thoughts come to mind - Sex and the City - impatient people walking everywhere, lots of crowds and traffic, everybody looks wealthy, taxi cabs, people living in apartments that cost zillions of dollars, and very trendy.

I am from Sydney Australia and I would love to go to NYC. It looks so multicultural, artistic, and extremely busy.

NY in itself is overwhelming. The people in it are rude or atleast the ones I met. But then again I am a hermit here in my little town of a couple hundred people. I like it that way! Don't get me wrong, we have rude people to just not quite as rude and we know how to drive. City folks are always rushing!
