I wouldn't worry about it. If you ask him, it will only embarass him. You could call your pediatrician and ask if you are so worried, but I'm sure they'll tell you it's normal.

Sweetie, there is nothing wrong with that.It is his body, and he will continue to explore it himself and teach himself about it.You could have his father or a male figure that you trust,as well as he trusts and have them have a guy time set aside each week. There are so many young men out there who are in need of a male figure in their life even if it isnt their father. They will ask this male figure questions instead of learning about it from peers. Now,having this trusted male adult there doesnt give you any right to ask questions about what they speak about. This is "guy Time" what is said during this time stays between the both of them. This could be a comfort issue. It is there, and it is something that he can hold on to,same sort of issue just as if it were some sort of stuffed animal with a small child. It is for comfort.More than likely he is doing this once he is asleep.Of course he more than likely wont remember it if he is doing this in his sleep.Dont ask him about this, dont worry about it,you should not be concerned, and as for the questions he has just allow a trusted male figure to spend time with him.Just leave it alone,if you bring it up it will only make him very uncomfortable as it will you as well.Just let him grow up,as hard as it is.Good luck hun, have a good evening.

It is perfectly normal my husband and my 6 year old son do it. No sure why but I never questioned it. If that the way they sleep there is nothing you can do. They are in the privacy of their own bed and room. Do not say anything and leave him alone.

You've made me wonder now ??? I have an 11yr old boy too, I guess it is all part of growing up, Don't worry I'm sure it is completely normal. Just keep an eye on him. Check that he's happy with himself, maybe he is just exploring ? I must say I'm new to this one, but I think he will be okay x

Actually, as I learned in Health class, it's absolutely normal. Most kids do that, and I guess it "feels good" Ew. Anyway, if you want to spare him the embarassment, let it slide. I'm not sure how you should approach this. Do what you feel is best.

Yes, it is a comfort thing, my nephews both do it (7 & 11 years old) although they do have their hands down their pants, but it is the same thing, my 2 year old even does it from time to time, s yes I would say it is perfectly normal

What happens to me a lot is that i all asleep without my hand in my pants and then it goes into my underwear while i'm asleep. It's nothing to worry about, and if he is masturbating it's normal adolescent behavior.

if he was holding his ear, would you worry?
at his age, its not so big a deal
dont try to scare him. if you cant talk to him openly and nontraumatically and judgementally about sex and sexual organs, then sure let a doctor or somebody do that. get a book on sex
i suggest "sexuality now"
youre never to young to learn
