It's definitely real. As far as being safe, well that one is not so simple. The moment you use it and you sense that the spirit you have found is giving you bad vibes, stop immediately.
Yes, I have lots of experience with them and I use them often. I don't use it as a game though. I take it very seriously.
Here is a true story for you:
My best friend and I were using one, and we talking to a spirit. Her grandmother came in and was being very critical about it and saying it was evil and of the devil. Well the triangle flew right off from the board and hit her in the calf of her leg! No kidding. My friend was surprised, but I wasn't. I half expected it to happen.
It would probably be best to use it with someone who has used one before.
The main thing is to keep your mind free from any thoughts except concentrating on the board and allowing your mind to be open to the spirit that comes....
And I know I don't have to tell you this, but don't use it as just a game to play, it isn't.
Oh yeah, get ready for hearing how it's the devil and you should stay away from it from people on here.
It's not. But, I do want to warn you to take it seriously okay? You don't really have any control on the spirit that will come forth.
If you have a bad experience or an evil spirit comes, don't throw the board away or burn it. You won't have a way to send it back to where it came from.
You know, you don't have to buy a board. You can make your own. Any hard surface will do and just add cut out and tape letters on it and use a plain ole glass.
Clear your mind and concentrate and be serious when you are calling them....

i love the ouija board
the weirdest thing that ever happened was years ago when i was in the dorm room of my nursing school with a few friends
it was late at night and was way past lights out curfew
we were sitting on the floor with just a flashlight for light
we asked it it's name
it spelled beelzabub
we asked where are you
it spelled behind you
we asked where
it said in the cemetery
there was a cemetary directly out side the window across the street
you never saw so many people run to crawl into bed and pull the covers up so fast
it's just a game
is an old wives tale that it calls up evil spirits and demons but it sure scared us

and from what i know they can pick the presances of spirits.
If you don't know what you are doing, you can really bring a bad vibe/karma/spirit to your home. If youre not educated in such things, I'd say dont do it, i cant imagine spirits want to be "bothered" or disturbed, and from what i know, it really frightens them.
there are two types of spectors:
the first kind are on a "track" if you will, they dont know that they are dead, and they constantly do the same thing over and over;
like the wander the same hallways, they go to the same room, ect. these spirits are harmless and are trapped there for a variity
of reasons; died in a violent way, lost a loved one, ect and their souls cant get to the other side. if you "interrupt" them, this can cause a disturbance that will backfire on you.
the other type of spector are the ones that know that they are dead and sometimes they are playful, misplacing your stuff in your home, jumping on the bed, ect. i know someone who had a tree swing in their backyard and sometimes it would move on its own , like a kid was playing on it, even with no wind, turns out
a little girl used to live there and died at the house of chicken pox.
but sometimes, the spirit is mean or angry for whatever reason
and you DO NOT want to bother them either, because they can activly "enter" you or you can bring them with you and they will bother you.

quija board....oh yeah, they work extremely good. especially the ones from mattel. I used its magically dark magic and used it on some other mattel products. We transfered the dark magic into ken and barby (now dark ken and dark barby). They get along like kfed and bspear. True Story. I'm not sure about how they work at speaking to the dead..but whatev.

I think they're bogus. I doubt you would be able to contact spirits from another world with something that came in a box labeled "Parker Brothers".
