Recently a friend told me about a movement called The Brights. The goal seems to be to give atheists, agnostics, and humanists a positive image makeover in people's minds. Similar to the effect the term "gay" had for gays. Richard Dawkins is the best-known proponent.

What do you think? Is the movement necessary? What do you think of the name?

It's interesting, and I like that they're doing something positive and trying to create something organized. But as a non-atheist, I take slight offense to the name--it implies that everyone else is "dim".
