Genghis Khan. No question about it. He was a fascinating figure in history because of his ability to lead and to gain widespread support among his people in the Steppes.

How about Franklin D. Roosevelt. He was elected to the Presidency 4 times. He brought the U.S. out of the Great Depression and started Social Security. He guided the country through war with Germany and Japan and oversaw the development of the atomic bomb. He had polio and could not move any part of his body below his waist, but never wanted to appear as weak, so he forbade anyone to photograph him in his wheelchair and learned to stand with the aid of leg braces.

King Henry the 8th, Susan B. Anthony, my favorite is Helen Keller (even though she's not really political).

It depends on what you find interesting, of course. Plus what you are allowed to use in your essay. I myself am very interested in Adolf Hitler. No, I don't admire him or anything, he just interests me. The way he managed to grow from pretty much nothinng to the ruler of half of Europe. I guess it interests me because it scares me..

Martin Luther king. The only 'ethnic' male to challenge and create radical change within the 'white' establishment.
And he achieved it through peaceful demonstration and campaigns, not terorrism or violence.
