Just FYI, I'm not white and this is not meant to offend anyone so please don't take it the wrong way.
There is a whole lot of stuff out there that are for blacks/latinos that would be considered racist if it were for white people. like BET, if there was a "WET", people would go ballistic. Million Man March, what is there was a march like that but was for white people? Also, things like NAACP type of awards, or Latino Awards (sorry, don't know the actual name).
Isn't this reverse racism?

Just because whites are the majority does not mean that regular award shows are for whites because I see a whole lot other races winning awards.

If there were events specially for whites, they would be compared with the KKK.

first, i wasn't saying that having the blacks/latinos having specific events/organizations is reverse racism towards whites, i'm saying that people getting upset or protesting against whites having events specifically for white people is reverse racism. whoever disagrees with me, are you telling me that if one day white people did get a million white people together to do positivie things, you're telling me that people will not get offended? i don't think so. people would go out and protest against it and a riot would start.

Damn I am so tired of seeing this question posted. I'm sure all of the white people will agree with you. However, I don't. There is nothing racist about BET or the NAACP, or anything like that. So, NO its not reverse racism.
BET is owned by Viacom. The same people who own MTV, VH1 and many other cable networks, including CBS. So basically, the rich white guys are capitolizing on hip hop culture. Is that racist????
Aren't there plenty of things in our society that is just white??? How about the Country Music Channel? Ok... you have Cowboy Troy... but BET has Eminem.
The NAACP was started years ago when black didn't have anything for themselves and was not included in all the white stuff going on. So, just because the civil rights movement ended, does that mean they have to pack up their bags and stop fighting the cause.
We have these things to celebrate and uplift our people. There is nothing racist about it. We're not demeaning white people or anyone else. The Million Man March was a positive event for blacks. What is wrong with that? If you wanted to get a million white guys together and march to improve conditions in your communities, you should do that. If you want to start a NAAWP to help out with the conditions facing the white communites, go right ahead. The only reason why anyone would ever have a problem is if these things were to promote white supremacy. Like the KKK. If you don't walk around talking about "we white people are better than everyone else, so we're excluding you" then, there wouldn't be a problem.
What is the point of asking this question if you don't give a damn about the answers? Unless, they agree with you of course. Open up your mind. You don't know anything about what black and latino people feel. Why would we have a problem with white peopel doing something positive? Thats stupid. This world is ruled by the white man. Stop acting like you're a victim. You're not.

WET might be a better name for them, but face it, the majority culture has MTV and VH1. If you doubt the need for the Million Man March, consider the percentage of the prison population that is male and black -- which says everything about class and opportunities and nothing about inherent racial tendencies, btw.
When the black pride movement began, there definitely was a need for these things. The only blacks in my history textbooks were slaves, though Booker T. Washington got a whole paragraph for inventing things! (Irony alert.) As a white kid in the 'burbs, I learned a lot from the Black History Month psa's on the television.
And way back then, the movie and tv culture was segregated. There were black sitcoms, blaxploitation films, and everything else. So it made tremendous sense for there to be black awards, etc.
That this need is no longer so obvious is a sign of the (still partial) success of these efforts. Racism is still present, mind you, even if it's now better integrated. Pay attention to the types of roles that blacks are given in movies, etc. Pay attention also to who is lauded in black or Hispanic awards vs. mainstream. And remember that even when minority actors win Oscars and Grammys, the judges are still mostly white.

Coming from an American woman who happens to be Black, I think race is emphasised too much in this day and age by everyone. It's 2006, for God's sake.
As for the person saying you can't be proud to be White, I think people should focus on their acheivments more than their race. I have a beautiful skin color, but since I do not remember being handed a color wheel before birth I'm probably more proud of the way I chose the colors for the walls in my home.
There are alot of races playing catch up for the way they were excluded in this country. There are plenty of scholarships and help for those of Irish, Scandanavian, Appalachian, etc. decent in the United States, as well as Catholics, Lutherans, etc. and just like those for Blacks and Latinos, they are privately funded as they should be. As for award shows and such, well, the culture of the judges reflect the awards given, so naturally those of a certain "culture" should reward movies and music that speak to them more so than the majority. There could certainly be a "White" music awards, but does anyone actually doubt that we'd hear alot of "hate rock" being nominated? No one is going to award that, just as Public Enemy never pulled down Grammys hand over fist.
As for the Million Man March, that was done for a specific set of statistics. I don't feel like looking them up right now, but all I need to say is incarceration and illegitimacy rates, and you'll get the picture. And please note it was not called "The Million Black Man March" and that those of other races attended, just like civil rights marches of yore.
As for BET, maybe it needs to be renamed, but it's no different from CMT if you think about it. .

Genetics? i'm no longer so specific. have you ever seen African fashions? they're lithe, narrow, and lanky. Genetics might make a contribution to it yet i think of destructive nutrition in line with threat the main important. Our Soul nutrition is extremely wealthy and black women human beings tend to no longer be afflicted by the comparable photograph subject concerns as different women human beings. Even the fattiest, ugliest black lady will nevertheless think of she's pleasing even after all of us in her finished existence has suggested vice versa. lol. i think of different women human beings have added tension b/ca they see contained in the media each and every of the time those dazzling, skinny women human beings. We black women human beings have an array of diverse sized women human beings to emulate. no count number if that's a reliable or undesirable element....i do no longer recognize.

You mean there aren't things in this country that just for whites? Lets start with the KKK and then move on up to the highest office in the country. Getting back to the tube, I grew up at a time when it was extremely rare to see someone black on TV. Have you ever seen a black person in a John Wayne movie? If you feel left out because blacks out of necessity had to start creating their own, thank Jim Crow he started it.

Probably more people than you believe can see your point-- however, historically, this point is often underlined with negativity and seems to widen the gap between racial understanding even more than our history has proven.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Association_for_the_Advancement_of_White_People
In our current day and age, the need for this racial distinction may be slowly fading--America is gradually starting to accept that it's citizens cannot be defined by the standard of old--the old standard is exclusive and hurtful to the health of this country--the new standard seeks to define 'American' by the spirit of it's original meaning without the prejudice of privilege or assumed racial superiority--if we are successful, we may see this ideal in this lifetime...

It's because every other "thing", award show, march, etc. is for white people because they are in the majority. When Latinos are in the majority, maybe we will start having the white something or other awards, but I doubt that too.

i can see your points, and i actually think if there were some white activities/events, centered on building up the white spirit/self as a group, they might be accecpted, or atleast tolerated, the problem is, often whites form in groups to put others down,,,,, not saying other peoples dont do that or that most whites do that, but whites have a history of ,, and still do , that! oh and i am white

Reverse racism...?
No. Hold on to your hat: when one group is preferred to another, or singled out, or shown favor OR disfavor because of race, it's racism.

There are "things specifically for Blacks/Latinos" because these two minority groups are among the poorest of the U.S. So the government is only lending a helping hand to those in need. Get over yourself you can still apply for WIC and Welfare so what's the damn big deal.
