theres a million and one reasons to quit smoking and a million and 2 two excuses not to stop. I smoke and wish I didn't. I quit 2 times (when I was pregnant & nursing my 2 kids. ) WHY did I start back up??? Don't know, sitting by the fire one night I thought I could have just one. NO NO NO.
I can tell you a good thing that happened when I quit and that was I had a lot more free mental time to myself and time to get other things done.
They should have a smokers anonamous because I want to quit, like you and need support. It is hard but you can do it and so can I. We weren't born with a cigerette in our mouths. :)
If you need someone to talk to or just tell how many cigerettes you had today, just email me. You can contact me via this answers site. that nicorette gum does help a little. but your Will does all the work, Don't doubt yourself and take it minute by minute if you have to.. Someone told me its harder to quit smoking than to quit herion. My best to You.

Hi,
Great post! Quitting smoking was the hardest thing I've ever done in my life, and I thought I wasn't addicted!
Here's what I tried before finding success: hypnosis, those fake cigaretts, the nicotine patch, and group therapy....none worked.
I finally tried this HERBAL patch I bought 6 months ago on the net. They claim a 97% success rate. Well, it worked! They had a sweet deal which was a free 10 day trial for only $3.95 including shipping (it's regularly $53 for 10 days)!!
I don't know if they still have that deal, but it's worth a try.

A pack of smokes cost $4.00 (depending where you live). if you smoked one pack a day (most people smoke more) then that would be $28 a week, $112 a month and $1,344 a year.
Also, (depending on what state you live in) you can be fined $100 if you are caught flicking your cigarette on the ground, or out your car window.
for an interesting fact sheet go here: http://www.lungusa.org/site/pp.asp?c=dvLUK9O0E&b=39853
it will tell you all you need to know. and then some!

I also wanted some good reasons to quit smoking. In September of '04" I was diagnosed with COPD and was told to quit smoking or quit breathing. That was good enough for me--I am now 1013 days smoke free.

You have been given a lot of reasons above. You need to find one for yourself that you can believe in, and get determined that your health is more valuable than that cigarette, and the nicotine in it. Take a look at one of those cigarettes for the last time and decide that that small stick will not control and rule your life any more. Then humble yourself and ask the Lord Jesus to help and guide you through withdrawal. and you will come out on the other end free to help others quit as well.

smoking causes health problems and hygiene problems, smoking makes u cough a lot, makes your teeth and fingers yellow, smoking also will give you wrinkles around your mouth because the lack of oxygen when smoking.Smoking makes you and your house stink,I know you can't tell right now but a non smoker can smell your stink from a mile away.it's very unattractive. If all that is not enough to convince you to quick, think about CANCER OR even DEATH.
you need to love yours-self you only have one body in this life time you need to take care of it let your loved ones know you love them and that you want to live a longer healthier live with them(I'm sure they don't want to loss you.) STOP SMOKING! IT is not as hard as you think if you think about what smoking does to you. BE STRONG!
you know what I take a walk everyday, when I walk by my neighbors house I see her cutting her own grass, fixing her own car,she is raising two young men 16 and 17, she is the MOM and DAD to her boys now, because 2 years ago she became a widow, her husband passed away because of smoking! ON THE LAST DAY HE ASKED HIS SONS TO PROMISE HIM THAT THEY WOULD NOT SMOKE. THE BOYS do not smoke they come over to visit me a lot.THE DAD DID NOT EVEN GET A CHANCE TO WATCH HIS CHILDREN GROW UP TO BECOME MEN OR WATCH THEM GET MARRIED . WHEN THE BOYS HAVE KIDS I'M SURE THAT THE BOYS WILL FEEL BAD BECAUSE THEIR KIDS WONT HAVE A GRANDPA.
My step grandpa died about 3 years ago from smoking too leaving behinde his loving wilfe(my grandma)

Smoking is expensive and very bad for a person's health. Smoking is an inconvenience to the smoker. Are those reasons enough to quit?

The "good ones" are already covered, so I'll go by the old stand by"kissing a smoker is like kissing an ashtray". I don't like cleaning ashtrays(I don't have them in my own room:)) I know I don't want to be around a smoker alot 0_0.(I lost 3 family members, all heavy smokers, and 2 younger than I am now, to cancers of various kinds)

Nicotine is the #1 cause of illness, missed time from work, disability, and death in this country. About 500 000 people die each year from nicotine. To put this in perspective - during the 20th century about 500 000 US soldiers died. Thus - nicotine kills as many in 1 year as wars did in an entire century. If not for yourself - do it for your family.
