I have a Dell XPS 4700 that came with a Windows XP Home Edition Reinstallation CD. Recently, we got a HP laptop from work (without a reinstallation CD), and wanted to re-format it. Keep in mind that this is my Dad's laptop, and therefore he doesn't want Linux on it (I've tried convincing him). Will the Dell reinstallation disk work on the laptop?

No. The CD checks to see what kind of computer you are running it on and will in turn lock you out from installing it since it isn't a Dell computer.

No, there are ways around it, but they are really frustrating. As soon as you put the disk in, it will recognize that it is not a Dell system.
