You should worry about writing the book before you worry about being able to get it published.

All you need is a theme or just your imagination. you need to worry about what type of book you are going to write. Then you write and then you start searching for a publisher. I have just recently finished a poetry book and I am now in search of an publisher, which it is kind of difficult. because you have to find someone thats not going to try and rip you off.
Author House is a good publishing company so I've heard I am still trying to find more to look before i just choose therm. But first write your book then worry about getting it published at least when you're halfway done

It's a long road from the start of a book to publication. First you have to to decide if you are going to write fiction verus non, and then write the most engaging story you can. Then you have to find a publisher who is willing to take a chance on you. Be prepared to be rejected because there are a million other people trying to get published right along with you. If you are shooting for big publishing houses, you'll have to find a literary agent to represent you. You have to audition your work for them, much as you would to a publisher. If you find someone who feels you work is credible, then be prepared to edit your story to their liking, and once they sell your story to a publisher, be prepared to go through more edits. Right now, even the small publishers are contracting for books that won't be released for two years. There is a myriad of information on the web on internet publishing, self-publishing and literary agencies. It's never too soon to start your research. Good luck to you!

Well if this is your first time writing a book them you will have to complete your book and start send it out to different publishers and hope for the best. Now if you do manage to get your book published then it will be a lot easier to get the next one publish...............

Don't start worrying about a publisher, agent, etc. until you have a manuscript ready. Get an idea of what you want to write about, start developing characters, decide on the setting, etc. It's also good to keep notes about your story--i.e. a character's physical appearance, etc.--so that you can refer back to it rather than having to flip through pages of manuscript just to try to remember what color so-and-so's eyes were.

yes, since you are a first-time writer you will not be able to get a contract ahead of time like stephen king can.
write the manuscript first, keeping in mind what is publishable.
you can always self-publish on iuniverse. you don't need an external publisher.

There's lots of great help out there for new writers. First off, check out http://groups.yahoo.com/group/New_Writers/, a writers group for those just breaking into the field. I'd also recommend that you contact the helpful folks at WordTechs (www.wordtechs.com) and ask for information about getting started. They've been a lot of help to me.
Good luck with your writing!
