What coaches look for in a PG is his all-around floor leadership. The PG must be someone who first and foremost, protects the ball. Turnovers are not an option for a point guard. Second, he has to be an excellent passer, not just making a good pass, but making the right pass to the right teammate. A point guard should be able to make his team better. Leadership is the point guards main focus. Lead the team, protect the ball, make your teammates better, and hit the open shot when necessary.

A coach looks for a point guard that other players in the team can look up to. They are the 'coach on the floors'. You must know when and when not to pass etc all the fundamentals. Must handle the ball on both hands equally well. Must be able to read the opponents defense and lead your own team in offense. A point guard is also the first person back in defense. To be a good leader you must be communicative

play hard, be a leader on the floor dont be too cocky and follow your shots. Stay in front of you man on Defense and make smart decisions with the ball shoot when your open and make crisp passes. But the most important of all is play hard the whole way never slow down on any play no matter what.

coaches look for how you respond to your team. Make sure you know when to drive it to the basket, when to pass, who to pass too. Basically generally know what peoples strengths and weaknesses are in different situations.
