very sorry i meant without the windows disk

you are screwed without the disk, unless you want to do system restore.

You will need the restore disc from Dell.

Alternatively, look in your applications folder and see if Dell includes a restore application. Sony and others often have a hidden partition on the HD that contains the original disk image - which can be restored without any additional disks -- I do not know if dell does the same thing.

It comes in handy sometimes, but I hate the fact that it consumed ~20GB of my HD space to have this hidden partition in there.

You should have gotten a CD with your laptop that has Windows on it. Boot to that and it will begin installing.
