I suppose this sound like a stupid question - it's only for those who don't believe in an afterlife by the way.
Seeing as everything you know is based on your ability to move and breathe and generally live, is it possible to conceive not existing?
Is it beyond human comprehension to imagine time being infinite and you being gone forever as soon as you die? I certainly can't imagine it, it gives me a headache thinking about it.

Me too, but then I think of the 1st law of thermodynamics that states that:

Energy is not created or destroyed but only transferred or transformed...

As an atheist of sorts, it is how I explain consciousness etc.. and makes me think that, even if it is in a very different form when it is not contained in this body, and only partial in nature (provided it dissipates alot or a little after the death of the body)... we never REALLY die... At the worst we just become part of everything else...

Our energy, I call it "the stuff", is transferred and transformed but never destroyed... or created for that matter.

I can remember the spirit life and many other physical lives too. I think man's soul is like a tree after each season, (life); he sheds his leaves or the remnants of that life and then returns to life in the spring with new leaves. Most people can only remember and deal with the current incarnation; however, there are some who remember many. The thing is that your soul is infinite. It has always been here and will always be here. Time is like a disc. All points on that disc are equidistant from infinity which is at the center. If you choose to return to mortality, you may enter any point. If you wish to remember previous lives, you may; however, most people don't. If believe no explanation is necessary. If you do not believe, no explanation is possible.

i think about this alot. sometimes when i wanna give myself the chills ill really give it deep though. everything that was done is irrelevant. without a brain there are no memories. there is nothing. Absolutley nothing. Its as if you never even existed. im not sure about the afterlife. There is so much we dont know and unexplained. The universe is huge. its possible we move on to a different destination thats a perfect place. id like that but for now i think its complete darkness. the beggining of the end

I can't imagine actually being dead because obviously I haven't ever been. I have at times imagined what it would be like to be dead. It's scary and depressing. I would think that if there is such a thing as conciousness after death (totally non-Biblical now), it would be sort of like being buried alive -- total silence, darkness, suffocating feeling....
Like I said, scary and depressing, enough of that!

Yes, because I almost died 3 x.

Once in a car accident when my x was driving, very bad car accident,
Once when I was in the emergency room - pregnant and my daughter didn't make it.
Once when my second daughter - I had an emergency "c" section and she was taken to another hospital - her lungs collapsed 2 x, and I almost died during my surgery.

And now, I've died a thousand deaths when I saw my only surviving daughter with multiple scars......she's cutting/slashing/self mutilating and admitted it. I got her court ordered counseling...
.............but I still don't understand how she can do that to herself....after she called me names....said leave her with her father who she years before said physically abused her....cursed me, so I let her go......and listened as she screamed at me...leave me alone....so I let her go.

Really, how could she do that to herself...so many slash marks, and why did she show me.
...abused and brokenhearted mom.

I always what about how my family would handle it, then me actually being dead. My biggest fear is going to sleep and not waking up. Never getting to say goodbye. I try not to think about it though, it's tooooo depressing.

If you were dead and there is no afterlife, you have no brain activity and no imagination, no feeling, you will be decomposing to nothing.
