Business organisations create a structure for carrying out commercial transactions or offering services which are vital to the welfare and proper functioning of a community. When a business organisation is registered with the Register of Companies or the Chamber of Commerce or with any other regulatory body, society at large may have confidence that it is properly set up and carrying out its operations correctly, with proper standards of health and safety, failing which action may be taken against it. Similarly, trade associations enable business associations to work within a network, consequently improving performance and standards, which is also to the benefit of society at large. They make sizeable contributions to the country's revenue in the form of tax and local authority charges and often make voluntary contributions to charitable causes. Pension funds and individual investment plans rely heavily on the profits of big business, as quoted on the stock markets and commodity markets of the world.
