Most probably your DvD player has were out. Uninstall the codec pack. Now to check if you DvD player is still good go to my computer and have a look at the DVD RW DRIVE. insert a dvd/cd, if a name (name can be anything numbers, random alphabets) appears on the DVD DRIVE is all right, but if this does not happen then your DvD Drive has were out. Next if the DVD Drive is all right select the drive and then right click the drive. Go to open with and you will find a number of applications if it is a Video DVD select vlc player if audio then select winamp or windows media player. I am a technician.

Take it to someone who can fix computers. One thing I run across in working on computers/laptops is that they have little plugs in them that can work their way loose. Have someone check that out for you. Just open the drive and see if any plugs are loose.

Or, it could be that the laser is not working right. put in CDs and see if they work or not either.

Or, something corrupted some drivers on your laptop for the DVD drive.

Maybe something else altogether, but those are my main guesses.

What is the Media Player you are using?
Windows Media Player does not play some DVD's. I use WinDVD personally. Another thing is that maybe the lens is dirty, Also the DVD maybe scratched. Good luck

I think that your DVD driver is missing/corrupt and you can verify this by looking at your 'Device Manager' ie. Alongside CD/DVD you might see an exclamation mark (!), if this is so or even if it isn't, I would advise you to remove the device then restart your computer. Windows will find the drivers and re-install your DVD.

1. Right click My Computer
2. Select Properties
3. Click on Hardware
4. Click on Device Manager
5. Click on (+) by DVD/CD Rom Drives
6. Right click on your DVD
7. Uninstall and reboot your computer.

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
