It depends on what you mean: today's Rock is better than rap/hip-hop in my personal opinion but the songwriting and talents are way down except for a few left out there compared to classic rock.
If I had to choose between keep it or scratch it I'd say keep it. I know the Stones won't be around for much longer so their music days are almost over, all the Ramones except for Tommy are dead (including the 4 others besides Joey, Johnny and Dee Dee) and everyone is retiring in the classic Rock industry. So there has to be some bands to take the reigns, I'm just happy for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, they're some of the few good muscians left (although "Dani California" is a total ripoff of Led Zeppelin, Tom Petty and Jimi Hendrx).

Some of it really does rock, however some has gotten too commercial and it seems like they're no longer about the music. The whole point of rock and roll to begin with was based on rebellion and it seems to be a fleeting cause.

I love rock, and i must admit that some songs might be pointless.. but as much as some people might hate it.. its not about agreeing with it, it's about enjoying it.. and if we let Rap stay out there.. why shouldn't Rock stay?? ha..
- and people.. Rock isn't "evil" and don't trash on any other type of music either cuz everyone has different takes on music.. I say to each its own.. live and let live..

I don't believe in censorship so I would not "shelf" anything. Even God gave us free will. I do however as a parent monitor very closly what my children are watching, playing and to what they are listening.
Also as a business owner I can choose what music plays in my lobby. (Christian by the Way) and the message I put out to my clients.
I can control, to a degree what atmospheres my children are exposed to and educate them enough to know what is "good" and what is not and why I think so.
After that we are all free people, thanks to those who have fought for us that right, and we can choose to listen to whatever we wish.

I dislike it a lot, however I'm not going to trash it like people trash rap because I(unlike other human beings) understand that people are different and like different things. So no I wouldn't ever take it off the shelves.
P.S. I wouldn't want someone to take rap and rnb off of the shelves.

I've been listening to alternative/indie rock for the last 16 years. Now that's some good stuff. All the MTV/radio stuff can be dumped though.
