It was 45, the number he wore in high school and the same number he used in his short stint as a minor league baseball player.

Jordan wore the number (#45) as #23 was retired and hanging in the rafters of the United Center. He also said that he wanted to keep #23 retired as it was the number that his late father had last seen him play with.

Jordan later yielded and switched back to #23 during the second round of the 1995 playoff series they had against the Orlando Magic.

when he came out of retirement he was the realest number ever, it was my old number in high school and college. . . . . 45. That number put up buckets in Northern Cali and down at Long Beach St.
