Actually, I disagree with the first two posts. Bush has had much more power during his term. If Clinton did half of the things Bush has done during his Presidency, Clinton would have been lynched.

To answer the question, IMO I would like to see a "smarter President" take office. And no, I don’t think any President should have the power to steal an election, send a country to war under false pretences and force their greedy agenda on the country they are supposed to serve.

I don't care if they are Democrat or Republican, I want them to have line item veto. I think that's the only way we will ever get the Budget under control. And when you think about it, if you are going to blame the President for deficits instead of Congress he should be allowed to have more say in how the money is spent.

With line item veto we might not stop excessive government spending. But we can sure slow it down.

Now as to the power Bush has. No President has had less. Bush hasn't done what Roosevelt did during WWII. I haven't seen any internment camps for people of Arab descent. Have you? Even the people down in Gitmo were captured outside the US.

The thing that limits what a president can do is the congress.

I like it better when the president is one party and the congress is another because then they have to cooperate to get things done which usually means compromises.

I prefer to have a balance of power in D C to a one-sided, blanket agreement to anything a president of ANY party could suggest for WE THE PEOPLE.

Nope and he wont. As the Dems showed today by defying Nancy Pelosi, it isnt about Power before Country, its about voting for what is best for you constituents.

Now it would be nice if they continue that way, but I wont hold my breath.

(R)s can stick their heads in the sand on this one but they know its true, a WH wielded unprecidented power and look where it has left us, record debts, record government size and an unwinnable war that the VP said....and get this.... NO MATTER WHAT the view of the electorate they wouldnt change course in IRaq.

Makes you proud huh.
