It's boaring to be so shy.
Start speaking up.
Try to change the conversation of a small crowd to a subject you feel comfortable with.
For instance, I am single, not dating, so I tell some that I met a man in Helena, fell in love and took him home with me.
Most laugh, and ask if it is a dog or cat.
Others ask even more questions, like what's his name, is he cute, etc.
The responses have been fun and an easy way to start up conversations.

Figure out what your interests are and join some groups on campus.
Ie: Debate, Newspaper, Sports, Chess, Tutoring, etc...
You will meet people with similar interests. You will have something in common to talk about which may lead to other topics. Who knows, you may make some new friends or at the very least, new aquantices who you can practice your social skills with.

You've become to laid back. You need to go out and enjoy life sometimes. You don't have to become a party animal to be sociable. Look in your local paper and see what's going on around town. Join a group that has the same interests that you do. There are alot of things you can do if you just do it.

You've recieved some great advice. If you can't take that step to get active go for help in your college's medical department and seek counseling.
You know what to do. You just need someone to stay on your a$$ until you do it.
