There are some really cool restaurants that are the best kept secerets of the locals that live there. I know, I've lived in several cities across the nation and there are restaurants that I miss now that I dont live there anymore:

Atlanta, GA: Eats Cafe - Jerk Chicken and black beans & rice
Las Cruces, NM: Chopes - Margarittas and chile rellenos
Las Vegas, NV: The Hush Puppy - All you can eat fried catfish and seafood
Seattle, WA: Salty's on Alki - The weekend brunch is slammin'

Pittsburgh, PA: Cafe du Jour. Locally owned and operated, there is a secret garden outside where they grow many of the ingredients used in their dishes. Sit outside for a romantic dinner that feels like the French countryside. Dishes are eclectic American. BYOB is a true plus!

Hampton, VA: Harpoon Larry's. Nachos are served in a lid from a garbage can, and the tomatoes are marinated before added to the mix. Bacon wrapped shrimp are not to be missed. Dive bar with great food!

Grove City, PA: Rachel's Roadhouse. Homemade potato chips with ranch dressing are simply amazing.

Scottsdale, AZ: Pink Taco. Fun name, great ambiance. Casual hipster Tex-Mex with amazing salsa choices. Good margaritas and sangrias, fun waitstaff.

Norfolk, VA: La Galleria. The champagne chicken with homemade angel hair pasta is so fabulous. Not expensive at all, but the decor feels like you are in Italy.

Portland, Oregon. Il Fornaio (sp?). It's an Italian restaurant in Northwest Portland that changes it's menu on a regular basis, to feature dishes from the different regions of Italy.

Also Pizza Oasis has great pizza.

And there is another Italian restaurant on the other side of town called Sylvia's. It's falls under the "quaint" category, where as Il Fornaio is more fancy. But Sylvia's makes the best dinner salads and minestrone soup. I always fill up on the soup and salad and take my entree home to eat later.

And the Ringside makes fantastic steaks and Onion Rings to die for.

Makes me wish I were back in Oregon and not here in Texas!

Indianapolis, St. Elmo's Steakhouse. Since the 1800's. All the Rich, Famous, and sports celebrities go there.

Or for a bar, The Slippery Noodle Inn, Indiana's oldest bar. Great live Blues venue.

INDIANAPOLIS - St. Elmo's Steakhouse.

It's over a hundred years old and EVERY celebrity, pro athlete, or anybody that has been around says that it's one of the best in the country. It's not cheap, but you get fantastic service by waiters in tuxes and steaks cooked to perfection.

There are fancier looking places, but no place better to eat. Remember it's been in the same place for over a hundred years. Try it.

North Conway, NH: Mt Washington Hotel Restaurant-- to be honest, I don't if that's the name. But the Sunday buffet brunch is outrageous. You have to book your reservations pretty far in advance, even if you are staying at the hotel. TOTALLY worth it
