where did the saying "up in arms" come from and what does it really mean?(ex-Don't get all up in arms over not winning")or (why are people all up in arms over glabal warning?)any question that has that phrase appears in doesnt really give a good explanation.what does it mean?

"up in arms", this expression comes from the Spanish "levantados en armas" is the expression we use to name the rebellious people. I don't know if you have heard the word "guerrilla ", is a person who fight against the soldiers and kill citizen without any reason. These groups are dangerous for the Country, they go against our laws and try to do their own laws.

My guess is that it had something to do -- initially -- with arms, as literally, firearms.

What it means is "agitated" or "upset" or "all worked up" about something...e.g. "I was up in arms about the election results" means "I was really worked up about the election results, really agitated about how they turned out..."
