what is his job that he needs 5 minutes to "wash up"? Does he take a shower on company time? Anyone paying wages by the hour has a right to expect that the employee would work 60 minutes an hour. Is he just trying to escape early? Just tell hubby to wash up after he clocks out, unless he is so filthy that he has to wash up before he clocks out.

Why not? Can't you wash up after the shift? I think you feel your entititled to somthing your not. It makes me so mad when all these employees think that they should get these "made up" benefits. I recently had a guy come to me saying that Since he always showed up for work 20 minutes early and was working 20 minutes early that he should be able to go home 20 minutes early... basically he wasn't happw with his hours.
I told him that if he wants to show up that early that is his decision and his shift is 6am to 6pm and if he has a problem with that then he needs to find an other job. What really got me mad was that he basically told me that this was somthing that he was entitled to after working there for 5 years. Ridiculous!
If he would have came to me and said " Travis I am having a problem and was wondering if my shift could be altered by 20 minutes ... can we work somthing out? " I may have been a bit more receptive. Since he did it like that I just told him that I'm not gonna do anything for him.

I work for an employment agency and, no he isn't entitled to pack up time, however he is in titled to a lunch break and some laboring jobs require two 15 minute breaks a day, but an employer can make him work until punch out time. Seems unfair and said, I have never had a job where they don't allow us to walk out the door a minute till closing!

What does your husband do that requires him to wash up after work? I would think the employer wouldn't mind a few minutes extra on the clock....that being said though, this sounds a bit trife of an issue to get worked up over.

If he wants to wash up, it's his choice not part of the job being done. His washing up does not help his employer.

That's not a good work ethic to be fighting with their boss over 5 minutes a day.

Exception: if he is handling toxic or biohazard materials and by law he must be required to wash up -- then he is still "working" when he's washing and the employer better be sure he did it.
