From reading the papers and the past experience of the Red Sox in dealing with agent Scott Boras it is only a matter of money. Specifically: how much?
The Sox already have 51 million in him, it would be nuts not to sign him.
I'm looking at a rookie contract that will be around $15 million per year. The other question is if it will be for 3, 4 or 5 years. Boras wants 3 the Sox want at least 4. It may come down to how much Matsuzaka wants to play in the US.
Now about getting a closer????? And maybe Roger Clemens back where he belongs???

Well, they spent 51 million just to get to negotiate with him on a playing contract, so i think they will sign him..i mean, because honestly, if they simply put a 51 million dollar bid to block other teams , namely the Yankees, thats kinda counterproductive..especially considering they could use pitching...so ild be shocked if they didnt sign the guy. Though, they do get the 51 million back if they dont sign him..which i guess is kinda what has the conspiracy theorists thinking that thats why they put in such an ungodly bid to get him..because they know theyre not signing him and theyll get their coin back and it keeps him out of NY for another year.... but i think they'll sign him. It's going to end up costing Boston near a hundred million dollars for a guy who pitches once every 5 days! LOL.. crazy, but whatever

As much as people have tried to suggest Matsuzaka only wants to play for the Yankees, its just not true.
There have been any number of quotes of him talking about Boston since they won it.
He wants to play in the majors, is not a FA until 2008, Boras needs to sign him to prove himself as reasonable, and it helps his other clients, and you better believe the Red Sox want him.
It will take most of the 30day window to get it done, but it will be done.

i cant imagine they would pay 51 million just to speak to him and then have to give him more money on top of that for his salary,he is proven over there but over there isnt over here look at all the other imports how many of the pichers have worked out ,nomo was good for a couple of years then he sucked remember hideki irabu for the yankees he was horribal kas ishii from the dogers he was good for one year and then just average at best know he is back over there even the hitters arnt that good exept for that one in seattle.i was just a ploy to stop the yankees thats why there bid was like twenty million more than the next team.

Yes, and as someone who watched him pitch for years and years in Japan, I think scouts are overrating him based on his WBC performamce vs. a USA team not in shape. He's an all-star in Japan, no doubt, but he's not remotely in Nomo's class as far as prime years. Plus paying $52 million just for the rights and he's a guy at best who will win 15-18 games. That's it!
I can see paying that for an everyday player as you can beam all 162 games into Japan and recoup your cash.
Not worth an entire MLB roster's salary on one guy. Boston got hosed.

I hope the Yankees pick the Red Sox pockets and steal him away just for general principle.
