In short MS SQL is a language used to manipulate databases via codes SQL meaning Structured (or Simple) Query Language

Ms Access is a WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) Program to create databases

NOT SO SIMPLE...

The fundamental difference is that MSSQL is client/server RDBMS and Access is file-based. MSSQL has a server side component (databse engine) that always need to be running before you can connect to any databses and you need to get a client component (GUI e.g. SQL Enterprise Manager, query analyser, etc) in order to connect to the server component. Access is actually a Jet engine database and you use MS Access as the GUI. MS Access offers you excellent GUI tools to manipulate the data in the .mdb Jet database file. However, you can connect to access from other GUIs e.g. VB6 IDE. You can research on file based vs server based databases.

Both are SQL databases, which is by the way a language itself. The SQL standard describes a common language for manipulating and defining data in compliant database management systems. Thats how you can write a VB6 app for example which uses an access backend, and not need to have MS Access installed in order to access the data in the .mdb file.

just google something like mssql vs access and sift through the results.

This is a good comparison (MSDE is scaled down SQL Server):

Hi S.
First you need to think where you want to use the database.
in case its a simple client S/W go ahead and choose MS Access. Sience Very easy to use and Almost a kid can configure.

And incase you need help there are very good help from Microsoft itself. (Good Work Microsoft guys Although I personaly Don't like Access)

But incase you need more records enter Big Brothers Jungle.
Go ahead choose Oracle/MySql/
In simple word totaly depends upon the requirement.
Take a example naukri.com (Big company > Big Database> MY SQl)
Take Another example you are hired by a "LALA ji" asking to make his software for daily transaction of his "Dukan"/shop
Go ahead choose MS access. Why bothering Sience the product will not have so Big Database atleast not required at all. no security needed at all.

Look one thing should be clear >If you know MYSQL you will never touch any other database.
Very easy to learn > Simple Game of SQL >that you learn during your MCA.
Security feature are really good.

BUT NOTE ONE THING SECURITY DEPENDS UP ONE THE DATABASE PROGRAMMER+Administrators+ each and every thing that make your system live.
if had devoted many years in Microsoft Environment. you probable don't like it. Go ahead choose Oracle (if your Pocket allow)

Any other advice needed feel free to Shoot me mail

MS SQL is multi read and multi write while MS Access is multi read and only one user can write into the database at any one time else, it crashes.

get proper of entry to is a database software (small scale compared to the likes sq. Server/Oracle) and Excel is spreadsheet software. The confusion frequently arises because both have spreadsheet like documents get proper of entry to reflects. a million) get proper of entry to shops documents in tables which will be on the problem of one yet another (relational database) even as Excel makes use of flat spreadsheets 2) get proper of entry to love different database apps can use the sq. language to question yet excel has none 3) get proper of entry to can keep a lot extra documents than excel can wish that facilitates somewhat? each and each and every of the perfect on your try!
